The Struggle: Finding Meaning in the Challenge
Preponderance of the Great | Scorpio Season | Gates Library, CaTellyst Coaching

You know that feeling when you’re in the middle of something hard and someone says “everything happens for a reason” and you have to smile politely while internally screaming?
Yeah. Gate 28 sees you.
Not because it has a tidy explanation for your struggle. But because it knows something most people won’t tell you: the meaning isn’t waiting on the other side of the hard thing. It’s being built inside it, right now, whether you can feel it or not.
If you’ve been in a season that’s asking more of you than you signed up for… if the business feels heavier than it did when you started… if you’ve caught yourself wondering whether any of this is actually worth it… welcome to Gate 28 energy. You are not off track.
You are in the ring.
Scorpio Steps Into the Spotlight

Picture Scorpio as the character who walks into the room last. Everyone else arrived in light layers. Scorpio showed up in all black, ordered something dark and complicated, and immediately started asking questions nobody else wanted to ask out loud.
She’s not trying to be difficult. She’s just allergic to the surface.
Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation, depth, and the kind of power that can only be earned by going through something, not around it. She doesn’t do casual. She doesn’t do small talk. She does alchemy: turning what hurts into what heals, turning what you’ve been avoiding into the very thing that sets you free.
This is Scorpio’s gift. And right now, she’s standing backstage, handing Gate 28 the microphone.
What Is Gate 28, Actually

Gate 28 lives in the Spleen Center: the home of instinct, survival intelligence, and the body’s quiet knowing. This isn’t the center that thinks. It’s the center that feels, in the split second before your brain has a chance to weigh in.
In Human Design, Gate 28 is sometimes called the Gate of the Game Player. The one who challenges life itself. The one whose whole purpose is to seek out what makes the struggle worth it.
I call it the Gate of El Luchador. Because if you carry this energy, you were not built to avoid the fight. You were built to find the meaning inside it.
And here’s the thing about a true luchador: it’s not about winning every match. It’s about knowing which battles to take and which ones to walk away from. That discernment… that’s the whole lesson. Pick your battles. Win the war.
The I-Ching Story: Carrying Something Heavy Across a Fragile Bridge

In the I-Ching, Gate 28 is called Preponderance of the Great. Picture this: an ancient bridge, not quite strong enough for what’s being asked of it. And someone standing on the bank, holding something large, deciding whether to cross.
The teaching isn’t “don’t cross.” The teaching is: know what you’re carrying and why.
The bridge may bend. The weight may shift. But the person who crosses successfully isn’t the one who packed light. It’s the one who knew exactly what was worth carrying, and what was weighing them down for no good reason at all.
For the entrepreneur in year one or two of her business, this hits differently. Because she’s been loading up that bridge. With everyone else’s advice. With offers that looked right on paper but felt wrong in her chest. With strategies she borrowed from people whose energy is nothing like hers.
Gate 28 is asking her to set some of that down. Not everything. Just what isn’t hers to carry.

What Kabbalah Adds Here
In Kabbalah, Gate 28 resonates with Netzach: the sephira of endurance, victory, and the creative fire that keeps going when logic says stop.
Netzach is not brute force.
It’s not pushing harder. It’s the kind of staying power that comes from knowing why you’re still here, still building, still showing up even on the days when the whole thing feels uncertain.
Here’s what brilliant friends know that motivational posters don’t tell you: endurance that isn’t rooted in meaning will burn you out every time. You can hustle your way through almost anything for a while. But Gate 28 energy is not looking for a while. It’s looking for what actually makes this worth it.
That question isn’t a crisis. It’s a compass.
The Gene Keys Layer: From Purposelessness to Totality to Immortality
In the Gene Keys, Gate 28 moves through three frequencies.
The Shadow is Purposelessness. And for the entrepreneur, this one is sneaky. It doesn’t always show up as despair. Sometimes it shows up as going through the motions. Publishing content that doesn’t feel like anything. Creating offers that look fine but feel hollow. Doing all the right things and still feeling strangely… disconnected from why you started.
The Gift is Totality. This is the frequency where she stops holding back. Where she brings her whole self: the messy parts, the unconventional parts, the parts she was quietly editing out to look more like everyone else. Totality doesn’t mean perfection. It means presence. Full, unapologetic, this-is-actually-me presence.
The Siddhi is Immortality. Not the metaphorical kind… the real kind. The kind where what you built outlives the moment you built it in. Where the work you do now keeps giving long after you’ve moved on to the next thing. That’s not something you manufacture. It’s what happens when Totality is practiced long enough.
Gate 28 is the path from one to the other. And Scorpio season is the season that strips away whatever was covering up the truth.
The New Paradigm of Business
Ya’akov wrestled with an angel through the night. He did not win cleanly. He walked away limping. And he walked away with a new name, a new identity, and the blessing he’d been reaching for his whole life.
Gate 28 is that story. Over and over, in business and in life.
The new paradigm leader isn’t the one who never struggles. She’s the one who struggles on purpose… because she has decided that what she’s building is worth it. She picks her battles. She protects her energy. She knows the difference between a fight that will grow her and a fight that will just drain her.
And if you just thought “I’m not really a leader”… I’d invite you to sit with that for a second. Are you sure you are not a leader? Because the woman in the ring, showing up for her people, building something real in the middle of real life… that’s leadership. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
Journal Prompts for Gate 28 Season
On the struggle itself:
- What struggle in my business have I been trying to get through instead of learning from?
- Where have I been fighting a battle that was never mine to win? What would it feel like to set it down?
- What has been the most meaningful challenge of my entrepreneurial journey so far, and what did it actually teach me?
On purpose and meaning:
- If I’m honest, does my current work feel meaningful? Where does it feel alive, and where does it feel hollow?
- What would I keep doing even if no one was watching and nothing was working yet?
- What is the real reason I started this? Not the elevator pitch version… the actual one.
On totality and presence:
- What part of myself have I been editing out to look more like what I think a business owner is supposed to look like?
- Where have I been showing up halfway? What would it feel like to bring my whole self to that place instead?
The Earth Gate: Gate 27, The Gate of Nourishment
While the Sun moves through Gate 28 asking you to wrestle with meaning… the Earth is quietly grounded in Gate 27, the Gate of Nourishment. And this pairing is not an accident.
Gate 27 lives in the Sacral Center, the energy center of life force, sustainability, and what actually feeds you. It’s the gate that knows: you cannot pour from empty. You cannot fight your best fights when you haven’t eaten.
If Gate 28 is the luchador in the ring, Gate 27 is the corner of the ring where her team is waiting: with water, with a towel, with a quiet word that reminds her why she came.
The invitation here, for your nervous system especially: let yourself be nourished. Let someone hand you the water. Let the struggle be held by something that replenishes you. You don’t have to carry the weight and starve at the same time.
Three Keys: Your Chart Has More to Say
If Gate 28 is defined in your chart, this energy isn’t just a transit for you. It’s part of your design: the way you’re built to move through challenges, find meaning, and build something that lasts.
And your chart has so much more to tell you. Your Strategy, your Authority, your Profile… these are the pieces that help you know which battles are actually yours, and how to fight them in a way that works for your specific energy.
The Three Keys to Building a Business That Feels Like You walks you through three of the most important pieces of your chart, in plain language, for free. Because the luchador who knows her design fights smarter, not just harder.

Next Up: Gate 44
Oh, Gate 44… the Gate of Patterns. The one that sees the past playing out in the present before anyone else has noticed. If you’ve ever felt like you keep ending up in the same situation with different people, or wondered why certain old stories keep showing up in your business no matter how much work you’ve done… Gate 44 has something to say to you. And it is worth hearing.
See you in Gate 44, Sashya
