We were taught to equate effort with virtue and output with worth. Kabbalah and Gate 34: Gevurah
In Kabbalistic tradition, Gate 34 resonates with Gevurah, the sefirah of strength, discipline, and discerning power. Gevurah sits on the left pillar of the Tree of Life, directly across from Chesed (lovingkindness), and its function is the sacred art of saying no.

Gevurah is the capacity to focus power like a beam of light. Where Chesed expands and gives, Gevurah contracts and directs. Both are necessary. But Gevurah is the one that most spiritual entrepreneurs have the most complicated relationship with, because we were taught that boundaries and strength are somehow less loving than openness and yes.
