Gate 34 corresponds to Hexagram 34 in the I-Ching: Da Zhuang, Great Power.
The image is thunder rolling above heaven: enormous energy, fully activated. The ancient teachers offered a specific caution about this hexagram. The one with great power, they said, is most dangerous not when they act, but when they act too soon, from force rather than rightness.
The classic symbol is the ox. The ox has tremendous strength. When it charges, it moves things. But the ox that charges at a fence gets its horns caught. Power without discernment does not conquer. It gets stuck. The I-Ching’s wisdom for Gate 34 is precise: the greatest expression of power is knowing when to wait. Not because you lack strength, but because timing is itself a form of mastery.
