The 3 Essential Activities Every Business Owner Needs Weekly

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you spent hours working on your business… only to feel like you didn’t actually get anywhere?

You’re not alone. I’ve been there, too.

And I’ve learned—after years as an entrepreneur and coach—that it’s not always a matter of spinning your wheels. Sometimes we’re putting in real effort. But if we’re not putting that effort into the right types of activities, our businesses start to drift sideways.

That’s why today’s post is all about the three essential categories of business activities every entrepreneur needs to block out time for—no matter your Human Design type, schedule, or business model.

Each plant glows softly beneath a starry night sky, connected by a glowing stream of light and surrounded by celestial symbols.

What are “Hygiene” Items and Why Do They Matter?

Hygiene items are the behind-the-scenes, often unsexy things that keep your business from falling apart.

A cosmic-themed illustration of a serene woman in a wide-brimmed hat gently pruning a plant under a starlit sky. She wears an apron and holds silver shears, surrounded by celestial symbols and a glowing crescent moon—symbolizing routine care and behind-the-scenes business tasks.

Think:

  • Filing receipts and updating your books
  • Sending invoices
  • Fixing backend website glitches
  • Updating website copy
  • Clearing your inbox

They’re like brushing your teeth or taking out the trash: skip them long enough, and something starts to stink.

📅 My tip: Block out time once or twice a week (I like Tuesdays and Fridays) to batch these tasks. Generators and Manifesting Generators often do well with rhythm and routine, while Reflectors benefit from daily check-ins. As a Mental Projector, I like to tackle one or two hygiene items every day—otherwise, I get twitchy just knowing they’re piling up.

What Counts as Income-Generating Activity?

Every business needs a stream of new people coming in, seeing what you offer, and deciding whether to say yes.

This includes:

  • Creating or sharing your offer
  • Hosting discovery calls or events
  • Connecting with new leads
  • Guest speaking or networking
  • Following up with potential clients

And here’s the kicker: you actually need to ask people to buy from you. Yep, even your freebie requires some “sales” energy—because people need to understand why it’s worth their time.

One easy (and fun) challenge: try to make 2–3 new “friends” a day. Podcasts, reels, and guest spots work great for getting introduced to other people’s friends, too! But don’t stop there. Touch based with 2-3 more people you met more than a month ago. Get a spreadsheet, and start tracking when you first connected, when you last connected, what you have in common. Then in a week or two when you reach out again, you can follow up with questions like, “Hey, I saw on Facebook that your cat was sick…how is that going?” Chances are at some point, maybe not this week, that new person will need something that your current offer is PERFECT for. By then your offer will feel natural and relational (and NOT salesy).

Why Deliverables and Customer Service Still Deserve Your Energy

A dreamy digital painting of a woman cradling a radiant sunflower in her hands. She smiles gently beneath a starry night sky, glowing with soft light—symbolizing warmth, fulfillment, and heartfelt service delivery.

You’ve got clients! Yay! Now it’s time to deliver on what you promised.

That includes:

  • Fulfilling services (readings, reports, kits, etc.)
  • Responding to questions
  • Following up
  • Offering deeper or next-level services

One of my favorite tools for this is Moxie, a versatile Client Relationship Management (CRM) System that grows with your business. It helps you track who’s purchased from you and when to check in again—which is so important for generating repeat business and nurturing relationships.

💡 Real talk: One of my VA clients recently asked for a Human Design Relationship Reading to support her partner through a life shift. No! I’m not a therapist—but I am trained to help people align their energy, so we created a powerful experience that helped her feel more empowered to be able to support him in his transition in a way that made him feel seen and heard. You can always pivot and add these types of valuable “extras” in areas you have training and expertise.

How to Align These Tasks With Your Energy Type

Not all business rhythms are created equal. Here are a few ways to align:

  • Manifestors & Manifesting Generators: Try block scheduling your business hygiene items, content creation, or even time to connect with potential clients, or network with other professionals. Once you get in the zone, the time will zoom by, and block scheduling will keep you from wasting precious time pivoting. Leave the rest of your work week for direct services, and client care.
  • Generators: Lean into a daily rhythm. You will want to do a little of each three every day. My husband (a Generator) likes to end his work day doing hygiene items so his workspace is clean, clear, and ready for the next day before he goes home. If you are a procrastinator, try doing the task in your business that lights you up the MOST first, then the one you dread, next, and then let the rest of the day ride on the satisfaction of accomplishment. If you aren’t sure which part of your business is lighting you up, reach out and get on my schedule for a quick Sacral Session, and we can see what your body says. Remember, you master things by doing them consistently! You got this!
  • Projectors: Completing daily hygiene items can prevent overwhelm! Remember to take a 15 minute walk outside, or rest with a cup of tea when your energy starts to falter. Or, focus on your gifts and outsource the rest! As a Mental Projector, myself, I find it very helpful to have a small group of professionals who you are committed to creating a symbiotic referral relationship with. Maybe you do Human Design VA work, like me, but you don’t do Human Design Parenting, but you know a great Human Design Specialist who is amazing at the parenting stuff. Make a referral! You don’t have to be all to everyone. And when the referrals come back your direction, they will be with recognition. Which is like, PRICELESS.
  • Reflectors: Every day is different for a Reflector, and every month is a little different as well. I am sure you can get a little discouraged with yourself that you are growing at a tree’s pace. But, don’t lose heart. For you, try an “outline” of the three categories, and then do them in which ever order feels aligned on any given day. But do do them! Since your design is entirely white, you will want to consider doing a couple hygiene items at the end of every work day to keep your energy clean and clear. Don’t let anything stagnant linger in your space.

How Seasons and Astrology Affect Your Productivity

Just like gardens, businesses have seasons. And your natal astrology chart can tell you exactly where your energy is focused each quarter:

  • 🌱 Planting Season: New ideas and offers
  • ☀️ Nurturing Season: Visibility, growth, connecting
  • 🍂 Harvest Season: Launches, sales, delivery
  • ❄️ Rest Season: Autopilot mode, reflection, recharging, evergreen offers

Right now in the northern hemisphere, we’re in late spring — a nurturing season—small plants getting bigger, not quite ready to harvest. This is the time for watering, weeding, and preparing for the bloom. But in six months, we will be harvesting all the fruits of our labor. Your business needs that TLC too. Too many times we treat our business, and our selves, like a machine that needs to “be productive” everyday of every season. But, that isn’t how real life works.
